Jaipur Rugs Foundation is a non-profit organization which is also seen as a catalog of innumerable success stories of many underprivileged people who churned wonders out of their lives. With turning out 40,000 lives towards betterment in their future, JRF outsources respect with financial independence to people who are down-trodden. Socially oppressed and victimized by the middlemen, destitute especially weavers were paid miserably to carry out their lives with. With less sustainable means of livelihood left for them, the weavers had no choice to turn away from their ancestral weaving job to other options such as masonry and migratory labor work.

During this time, a modest man named
Mr. N.K. Chaudhary tried to understand their actual problem. His ability to empathize with those weavers led him to help them. He thought and decided that equalizing the various so-called high and low communities of the society can only lead towards a better and progressive future for them.

Fascinated by the meticulous artwork of enmeshed threads together, Mr. Chaudhary learnt carpet weaving and installed two looms initially. Subsequently, after graduation, he tried hard to help such people get reemployed. With an uphill struggle, enterprise management & a blend of art and culture resulted into a unique concept. The conceptualization and implementation of the model of social entrepreneurship established various other possibilities of social upliftment of underprivileged people with rights to education, health and, sanitation. Subsequent knowledge of various governmental and other beneficial financial plans and schemes many weavers saved themselves from poverty.

Mr. Chaudhary established Jaipur Rugs Foundation in 2004. It was earlier known as International Research and Development Institute (IRDI).

With the help of constant toil and practical results, JRF has presently spread to 12 states (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Orissa, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, and West-Bengal). Those villages comprise of 60 villages with 4,500 looms installed. Around 5000 families are benefitting with such a fruitful employment scheme offered by Jaipur Rugs Foundation. Specially, the targeted clusters are the rural or urban unoccupied people who belong to SC/ST/OBC/BPL categories. These almost contain of potential weavers with unmatched weaving skills.

Eventually, a vision and mission was incorporated for the organization to function and aim for respectively. The mission is to let create a society with elements like peace, justice and equality. It should have equality as a synonym for it at all levels with a life led with dignity and quality. JRF’s mission is to determination leading to extinguish poverty and inculcate entrepreneurship amongst weavers. This would also initiate towards spread of carpet weaving as an art form.

Other noteworthy objectives of the foundation are as follows:
• Learning and input of latest technological advances meant for the development of the hand-knotted carpets and other forms of floor coverings.

• Bridging the gap between weavers and their potential customers worldwide. This also facilitates an exposure to global weaving standards, design development and in easy conception of globalization.

• To engage in relevant market studies, delegating trade missions meant for carpet industry within or worldwide.

• Such endeavors would also pave way for micro-enterprise development for direct and indirect betterment for the rural employment and carpet industrial scenario.

Now with the above talking, below is the actual walking.
Calibrating with time, Jaipur Rugs Foundation conceived and commenced various productive social projects in various villages. In 2004, in almost 12 districts within Rajasthan, Capacity Building Program helped enhancing the earnings of rural artisans and weavers. Around 200 families and 12000 weavers were positively affected by this.

Year 2005, saw starting of many Mobilization Campaigns in 30 villages in Rajasthan’s Alwar district. This made looms distribution, formation of self-help groups, training modules, enlightening people on new health schemes and policies by the government possible in Gujarat too.

2006-2007 initiated a loom bank set-up the financial requirements of looms in rural areas across India. Many hub projects and occupancy in fairs and exhibitions were undertaken.

If we try to map the complete areas under coverage for all such activities then it would be a long trail to follow. Yet a worthwhile journey to undertake.

JRF is a progressive non-profit foundation which is determined towards working according to its highly aimed mission and goals. Nevertheless, it is also very extensively working on reaching to other stripped ones. It has some plans to stretch out to other distant states such as Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam. Rajasthan’s remaining areas namely Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Barmer, Udaipur, Bhilwara, Karouli, Bharatpur are in the list.

Newer and revised plans to start with is in mind for locations such as Mujaffarpur, Bihar with Centre Direct, Nayagarh, Orissa, Jaisalmer with Suzlon, and Nagaland - Deemapur, Phek, Jaluki.

The foundation is a bustling lot of hands with hands always ready to help the disadvantaged with teaching and propagating the respectable carpet weaving skill.
